Cillessen misses the Eurocup due to the coronavirus

Jasper Cillessen will not be able to compete in the European Championship. The Netherlands coach, Frank De Boer, confirmed the absence from the tournament of the Valencia goalkeeper because of his positive for coronavirus. Initially, the player was only going to miss the preparation matches for the Dutch team, but his physical condition has meant that the coach has preferred not to have him during the 'eurocita'.

“I informed Jasper of my decision this morning. Let me start by saying that I find this incredibly bitter for Jasper. But I had to take the step. It is known that he tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, an important part of the preparation was lost. We don't know how long it will be until he is back in shape. I don't want to take any chances in that regard. We are on the eve of a European and I want certainty, “said De Boer this Tuesday.

The AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper, Marco Bizot, will cover the Cillessen square in the ‘oranje’ team. Tim Krul (Norwich City) and Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax) had already been selected previously.

The Netherlands is in Group C along with Austria, North Macedonia and Ukraine.
