The Amorebieta go up to Second after defeating Badajoz in the Nuevo Vívero

Amorebieta is a new second team after defeating yesterday in the final for the promotion to Badajoz in the Nuevo Vivero. A goal from Iker Bilbao allowed the modest Biscayan team to make history. The black and white tried to the very final whistle, but crashed into the solid and consistent blue wall.

The club with the least budget of those who have reached these Second B play-offs knew how to compete with their weapons against a powerful rival, the best of the 102 in the category according to those in the field. The zornotzarras faced this complicated challenge with confidence and neither the atmosphere nor the local pressure made them leave the established script. Their initial courage, being faithful to the way they played throughout the season, helped them to get ahead on the scoreboard around the 22nd minute of play. Larruzea shot, Kike Royo deflected the ball as best he could and Iker Bilbao took advantage of the rebound to make it 0-1.

The meeting remained open until the break. In the resumption, with Badajoz launched in search of a tie, Amorebieta had no choice but to take shelter to try to stop the increasingly intense local offensive. Two great interventions by Saizar allowed the Blues to emerge gracefully from as many compromising situations.

Estevez, Badajoz coach, looked for various solutions on the bench against a Biscayan team that remained faithful to his proposal at all times. The Badajoz coach even allowed Kike Royo, his goalkeeper, to play the last minutes as if he were just another outfield player. The Amorebieta resisted until the end and starred in a real feat by moving up in the category at the Nuevo Vivero itself. The ‘Viverazo’ will go down in the history of the Biscayan club.
