There will be a Classic in the Super Cup

The last day of the League has not only decided that the title falls into the hands of Atlético de Madrid, but also what are the crosses of the semifinals of the next Super Cup in Spain. Atlético and Real Madrid have qualified through LaLiga, while Barcelona and Athletic have done so through the Copa del Rey.

As stipulated in the competition rules of the Spanish Football Federation, the Copa del Rey champion will face the second classified and the Cup runner-up against the league champion. In this way, the first round of the Super Cup is already known and it will be with a Classic. Barcelona, as champion of the KO tournament, is measured against Real Madrid, second in the League; and Atlético, league champion, Athletic, runner-up cup. This is the first time I have played a Classic after the competition was reformed two seasons ago. For now, only Real Madrid (2020) and Athletic (2021) are the only ones who have managed to win the title with the final four system.

The Spanish Super Cup is scheduled to be played in the first half of January, being of interest to AFE and LaLiga that it be in the first. Both the footballers union and the employer's association have already agreed on the calendar for next season and it has been approved by the LaLiga Board of Divisions. The only thing missing is the approval of the RFEF, which normally makes some notes and modifications. Last season, for example, the CSD had to mediate by not reaching an agreement between RFEF and LaLiga. Although few changes can be made as there is little room for maneuver with a European Championship and an Olympic Games this summer and a World Cup in 2022. The intention, if this calendar is approved, is to start the season on the weekend of 13-15 August.
