Adelardo's emotional letter to Vicente Calderón

On a day like today, 34 years ago, he passed away Vicente Calderón, the best president of the Atlético de Madrid throughout its history. The Cantabrian held the presidency of the club for 21 years, in two periods (1964-1980 and 1982-1987) in which the rojiblanco team conquered four leagues (65/66, 69/70, 72/73 and 76/77), four Cups (1965, 1972, 1976 and 1985), a Spanish Super Cup (1985) and the Intercontinental (1975), in addition to 15 other titles with the handball section.

And another Atlético legend, Adelardo Rodriguez, eternal captain, player with the most matches as a mattress player in history and who was also the son-in-law ofand Don VicenteHe wanted to remind you with an emotional letter that we reproduce below.

“Dear friends, on a day like today, March 24, but 34 years ago, Don Vicente Calderón passed away, our president, that great president and great person who for years was the helm of our Atleti. With him he won our greatest trophy, our Intercontinental Cup, and many more.

Don Vicente earned the respect, affection and admiration of the Atlético family and those who were not. His life was the club of his loves and together we laughed, we cried, we went through sorrows and joys… but those are the memories and the history of a great club.

Many experiences and emotions go through my mind, although it seems that it was yesterday when at 36 I said goodbye to football and my club and with a hug my president told me: “Until always captain.”

One day, his heart stopped beating, a heart that always was and will be rojiblanco ”.
