Jean Clair Todibo has a new team. After his disastrous adventure at Benfica, where Barcelona managed to give it up ‘in extremis’ thanks to the help of representative Jorge Mendes, the Barça center-back has packed his bags to sign for Nice on loan until next June 30. It will be then when the French club has to decide whether to keep it or return it. If you want to own it, you agree to pay 8.5 million euros plus another seven in variables.
The Barça club has made the operation official tonight through a statement, placing special emphasis that it is a transfer executed with the approval of both Barcelona and Benfica.
Remember that Barcelona loaned Todibo to the Lisbon club for two seasons with the commitment of a single payment of 2 million euros and with the door open to a future purchase for 20 million euros. However, the relations between the coach, Jorge Jesus, and the young French defender deteriorated in a way that was as fast as surprising, to the point that the Portuguese coach came to describe Todibo as “a player without tactical and physical conditions to play high-level matches.”
The situation was so bizarre that Benfica tried to return the player to Barcelona in a surreal maneuver. From the first moment, the Barça club reminded him that he had an agreement for two seasons and that his intention was for him to fulfill it. Hence Benfica has also had to mediate on their part to find a loan to the player, at least until June 30.
