Jairzinho was an extraordinary Brazilian footballer who at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico established a brand that no one has been able to match. Scored a goal in each of the six games that Brasi playedl in that event in which Romania, Imglatera, Czechoslovakia, Peru, Uruguay and Italy were crowned champions in the final. Six goals to goal per game.
Something similar is achieving Jorge Molina. The Alcoy forward has four goals in the Cup, one per game, distributed as follows: one scored against San Juan de Pamplona (0-2), another against Cultural Leonesa (1-2), the third against Málaga (1-2) and this Thursday against Navalcarnero.
At 38 years old (he will turn 39 in April), Jorge Molina is still sure to score. He is, together with Roberto Soldado, the only footballer in the squad who has been able to score in the League, Copa del Rey and Champions, the three competitions in which Granada is competing.
The record of Arsenio Iglesias
We go back in time. We are going to the 1958-59 season. In that campaign Granada reached the final, the only one in its history. The path of the Grenadians was characterized by their scoring efficiency. In the round of 32 he eliminated Elche, Cádiz in the round of 16, Plus Ultra in the quarterfinals and Valencia in the semifinals in a tie that required a third tiebreaker game played at the Santiago Bernabéu. Arsenio Iglesias scored nine goals, including in the final, lost against Barcelona 4-1. Nine goals scored against Elche, Cádiz, Plus Ultra, Valencia and the one mentioned against Barça. Another player, Carranza got six. That good season in the Cup was one of much suffering in the League. Granada was saved from going down to Second after winning a promotion against Sabadell.
It may be a dream but: could Jorge Molina reach this campaign no less than the Wise of Arteixo 'or match Jairzinho? For now, the first step will be steep. Nothing less than Barcelona in Los Cármenes. Arsenio, as he is known, was the successful SuperDepor coach in the 1990s.
