Xisco Muñoz returns to Dinamo Tbilisi, his second home

Xisco Muñoz is already home. The Spaniard was announced today as the new coach of Dinamo Tbilisi, a club in which he is a legend. As a player he lived there for four seasons in which he scored 77 goals, distributed 33 assists and won five titles. In Tbilisi he also took his first steps as a coach. He led the team last season, leading them to the Erovnuli Liga (Georgia First Division) title after three blank seasons. “I am happy to be here, this club is my second home,” said the Spaniard after leading his first training session.

Despite their successful start, Xisco Muñoz and Dinamo Tbilisi did not reach an agreement to keep their paths together. The Georgian club gave the reins of the team to Kaja Chjetiani, who resigned after being eliminated from the Champions League qualifying round against modest Albanian Tirana. Along with Xisco, physical trainer Jordi Abella and assistant Roberto Cuesta arrive at the club. The Georgian team is also expected to make official the signing of center-back Victor Mongil, who also won the Erovnuli Liga in 2019 and later played for ATK, with which he was also champion in India.

After being eliminated from the Champions League, Dinamo Tbilisi fell to the second qualifying round of the Europa League, where they will meet Welsh Connah's. That will be next September 17; earlier, on the 13th, Xisco Muñoz's new team will travel to Batumi to face Dinamo Batumi, current leader of the Georgian First Division. Dinamo Tbilisi, meanwhile, is second after adding 19 points (five wins, four draws and one loss) in the first 10 matchdays. “The first thing we have to do is improve the mental state of the team. The rest will emerge,” Muñoz said after his return to Georgia.
