He Real Madrid has joined the select group of teams that have built the Youth League. To date only four knew the feeling of being the best European youth team: Chelsea (two), Barcelona (two), Port and RB Salzburg. This season, a generation led on an interim basis by Raul, has dyed the trophy meringue, entering directly into the hall of history. Raúl has been the most recent, but others five names they lived what he has recently lived in their flesh.
The first to lift it was the Spanish Jordi Vinyals, actually no team and that in the 2013-14 season he crowned Barcelona as the first winner in history. Two years later the legacy of Adi Viveash, an English technician who is currently in the Coventry City and that Chelsea became champion twice in a row, in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
The following would be the turn of one of the revelations of the German benches: Marco Rose. He gave RB Salzburg its first (and only) Youth League, in the 2016-17 season, currently being the coach of the Borussia Mönchengladbach. A year later it would be the turn of another Spaniard, Garcia Pepper, who crowned Barcelona for the second time, in the 2017-18 season and is coach of the Blaugrana subsidiary right now.
Last season the champion was Porto, led by Mario Silva, who is currently the coach of the Rio Ave Portuguese and is considered, like Rose, one of the coaches with the most projection on the national scene. And so we come to this season, where it has been crowned Raúl González Blanco, technician of Real Madrid Castilla who assumed the position of the juvenile on an interim basis.
Six, There are only six coaches who today can say that they raised the Youth League, the title that makes the best youth team in Europe. The premature character of competition, with only seven years of life, does not allow the list to be extensive, but little by little more technicians are being added.
