The Sevillian goalkeeper Sergio Rico, Keylor Navas' substitute, confirmed his departure from Paris Saint-Germain on social media this Monday (PSG), a day after the defeat in the Champions League final against Bayern (0-1). Rico, 26, on loan from Sevilla to PSG, was a substitute in the final as the former Real Madrid goalkeeper recovered from his thigh injury. The Andalusian goalkeeper has a contract until 2021 with the Sevilla club.
“It has been an honor to share the goals and challenges with my friend Keylor Navas in this competition, as well as with my other teammates, the coaching staff and our wonderful fans,” wrote the goalkeeper.
“On September 1, 2019, I arrived at PSG and I never imagined meeting a family like this. A family of teammates, friends who fought to the end to make history at the club. Unfortunately, we do not return to Paris with the trophy, but I am sure that this group will fight again to reach the final soon, “he continued, in a message posted on Twitter and Instagram.
The future of Sergio Rico, transferred last year for a season with an option to buy from Sevilla, was clear: he played little in Thomas Tuchel's team (10 games), without convincing the coach of everything.
But due to Navas Rico's injury he started in the semifinal against Lepzig (3-0 for PSG) and this will last forever. It could be that the French club hires a new goalkeeper or that the young Polish Marcin Bulka, 20, is promoted to second goalkeeper. It was currently the third.
