McEnroe: “I don't think anyone is surprising at the US Open”

Patrick McEnroe wanted to give his opinion on what he expects from the next US Open, which will start on August 31 in the New York bubble.

The former American tennis player does not believe that there will be big surprises in the American Grand Slam despite being a very atypical edition with great absences. “Some say 'Ah, maybe someone will surprise and win the US Open'. Maybe that someone could be Thiem or Tsitsipas, a name that has already made a name for itself, but I don't think they will. I do not think it will happen, it is not a real possibility, “McEnroe confessed in statements to the ATP.

McEnroe also cautions that the fact that there are no surprises does not guarantee that Novak Djokovic will take the title in New York. “However, this does not mean that Djokovic wins emphatically. He is clearly the favorite, but I don't think anyone will surprise and win the US Open.”

The former tennis player believes that all tennis players arrive on equal terms to the tournament because of the stoppage due to the coronavirus, which makes things more difficult for some tennis players. “All the players arrive on equal terms. Another thing is when you are five months out due to injury and the rest continue playing. That situation is more difficult. But it's about putting your expectations aside and concentrating on playing well to try to beat your opponent. “
