Two members of the Atlético de Madrid expedition that was supposed to travel to Lisbon tomorrow have tested positive in Covid-19. The staff underwent detection tests yesterday Saturday and the infected are isolated in their respective homes, the mattress entity reported in a statement issued this afternoon. At the moment the identity of the two affected is unknown, but both the newspaper As and the newspaper Marca assume that they are two footballers.
The expedition had to head to Lisbon tomorrow for the dispute of the Final at 8:00 Champions League but the detection of the positives forces the staff to undergo new tests that will delay the trip. The contagions “were immediately communicated to the Spanish and Portuguese health authorities, UEFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Portuguese Federation and the Higher Sports Council,” the club said.
“The action protocol foreseen for these cases has been activated, which requires the performance of new tests PCR to the first team and members of the expedition to Lisbon and to the closest contacts of the positive cases ”, communicates the club in the note, where it announces that the travel plan will vary due to the positive cases. “This motivates changes in training schedules, in the structure and development of travel and accommodation in the Portuguese capital,” Atlético explained.
“The club will coordinate the new schedules with the UEFA and as soon as there is a new plan it will be made public. He also asks for the utmost respect for the identity of the two positive cases ”, asks Atlético in the statement.
