The President of the Federation, Luis Rubiales, will deliver this July the LaLiga Cup to the champion as he did in the previous two seasons. The fact that there is no public in the stands, and that this peculiar reality could tarnish such an important day for Spanish football, has not changed the plans of the RFEF at all. The example of the delivery of the cup in the Endesa Basketball League to Baskonia, last Tuesday, shows that it is best to act normally, despite the fact that the circumstances are very different from the usual ones.
Rubiales plans to go to that stadium where Madrid or Barça can mathematically proclaim themselves champions in the next 17 days. The delivery to the captain on duty would take place just after the match in question on the pitch itself. He did so in 2018 and 2019, since it was an obsession for him announced in the electoral campaign to change the rule that Ángel María Villar had been executing, which gave the trophy in the first home game of the following season. The president of the RFEF already gave it to Iniesta in 2018 a few days after he won the presidential elections in Larrea and Barça was already a champion. He also repeated on April 25, 2019, this time handing the cup to Messi at the end of the Barça match against Levante that ended up being decisive. With women's football, Rubiales did the same with Atlético in his first year and in this one he has not yet been able to repeat with Barça since the Iberdrola League was terminated due to the coronavirus.
The only thing missing to know this season is where Rubiales will deliver the cup and to whom. Madrid, favorite with a point advantage over Barça, who can be four tonight if they beat Getafe (22:00, Valdebebas), will still have five days to go to achieve the goal. Along the way, Zidane's team will have less rest than Setien's. Madrid, in this order, will play this Sunday against Athletic (outside), then on Friday 10 against Alavés, on Monday 13 against Granada (outside), on Thursday 16 against Villarreal and on Sunday 19 July against Leganés (outside). Barça will face Villarreal this Sunday (away), the following Wednesday against Espanyol, Saturday 11 against Valladolid (outside), and, being the last two unified days, Thursday 16 against Osasuna and 19-J with the Alavés (outside). LaLiga, asked by AS on this matter, does not say whether the initiative is right or wrong. What's more, the sources consulted assure that “the plan of how and when to deliver the cup is not currently a priority for employers.”
