The retractable grass of the Bernabéu is delayed one year

The works of the imposing future Bernabéu continue to progress at a dizzying pace, especially in the part related to the placement of the new infrastructure so that a retractable roof can be installed that will completely cover the La Castellana stadium. In fact, in the northern part, the last part of the old structure of the old roof has already been dismantled and the tower that will help install the new roof has been installed. It should not be forgotten that the ambitious plan foresees the installation of a 360-degree electronic scoreboard (unpublished until now in any football stadium) and that the entire roof covering will facilitate the celebration of events such as musical concerts, congresses, etc. It won't just be to protect fans on rainy match days.

But what will have to wait a few months is the final installation of the retractable grass, without a doubt the most complicated and strategic part of the ‘New Bernabéu’. These images taken at the stadium a few days ago reflect that the impressive tunnel that had been erected in the center of the old pitch (The grass has been supplied by the earth and the excavators for weeks) it is now closed and sealed. The reason is simple. The work of the retractable lawn requires not only to deepen 25 or 30 meters to establish the structure to install it (includes the placement of some special rails to allow their placement and removal before and after games), but to avoid the drawbacks of the network of the Bernabéu subway (the Metro is close), which increases the complexity of the work.

Given that the next League (2020-21) is scheduled to start on September 12, it is not ruled out that the Higher Sports Council and LaLiga agree to the possibility that part of the capacity will enter the fields (It has been speculated with 30%), which would force to be able to locate in the Bernabéu about 25,000 fans. Given that in two months there would be no material time to finish that part of the work, it has been preferred to seal the tunnel that had been opened on the field of play for the time being and resume work on it at the end of the next season, where it would be used the summer break to accelerate and consummate them. In the rest of this League there is no problem. Both tonight, against Getafe, as against Alavés (Friday, day 10) and Villarreal (Thursday, day 16), Zidane's team will complete the three league matches pending at Di Stéfano behind closed doors. At the moment Madrid's new home has brought luck to the Whites. Three games, three wins without failure. Eibar (3-1), Valencia (3-0) and Mallorca (2-0) can attest to this …
