Neymar, sentenced to pay 6.7 million euros to Barça

The 15th Barcelona Social Court sentenced Neymar to pay 6.7 million euros to Barça in relation to the crossed demands for the signing bonus that the club and player agreed upon in the renewal of the Brazilian footballer in 2016. The judgment of Court number 15 completely rejects the player's demand, which demanded the payment of 43.6 million euros that according to the Brazilian Barça owed him as a second payment (he had already received one of 20.75 million ) of the contract extension that he had signed in 2016.

Barça, meanwhile, wins part of the demand, as it claimed the player 22.5 million for breach of contract. The player will have to return approximately a third part.

Neymar and Barça's lawyers had seen each other in the Ciutat de la Justicia on September 27, 2019. There, after a conciliation feud that did not materialize, both parties had until October 21 to write their conclusions and deliver them to the Judge, who eight months later has passed sentence in a resolution that Barça assured, in a statement, to receive with satisfaction. Barça used various arguments. The first, that the player signed a first contract between 2013 and 2018 that he had not fulfilled last year, which is why the club could already ask for 1.75 million euros. Then, Barça signed two more contracts with the player. One, until 2021, and another so that this contract would be extended until 2022. By signing these two contracts, Barça had already paid Neymar 20.75 million. The other 43.65 million had to do with a loyalty bonus. The first amount had been paid but Barça did not want to face the second because there was a “clear will” of the player not to fulfill the contract. Barça has taken the cat to the water in part and will have 6.7 million return from the player, who can however appeal the sentence.
