Official: Rubiales calls elections in the Federation

Luis Rubiales has communicated to the members of the Delegate Commission of the Federation the call for elections to the presidency in the RFEF, which will also elect the new representatives of its General Assembly. Rubiales, who will also communicate the news to his Board of Directors on the afternoon of this Wednesday, has specified that “Elections will be on August 17 if authorized by the CSD, and if August is not declared a business month, they will be on September 17”.

The deadlines for the elections will run from this Wednesday and the elections will take place on Monday, July 20, 2020, for representatives to the General Assembly, and on August 17 or September 17 (as appropriate in accordance with the regulations in force at that time that must be approved by the CSD) 2020 for the Presidency and the Delegated Commission of the RFEF.

Nothing is known of Casillas' candidacy three months ago. The man who was captain of Real Madrid expressed his intention to attend the elections, but it has been exactly 90 days since he spoke. On March 7, the CSD authorized the electoral advance in the Federation (RFEF). Only 24 hours later, Casillas began to consider resigning from presenting himself as an alternative. Until then, he had maintained the illusion, but on March 8, Iker already recognized the possibility of a withdrawal. The legal deadlines, the coronavirus, which has prevented him from campaigning, the difficulty of reversing the Assembly and the Electoral Regulation itself leave Iker Casillas with very little margin.

But that does not mean that another candidate cannot appear, since from this very Friday, June 12, until August 4 there will be time to present new alternatives. Federation sources believe that “from other soccer organizations a desperate person is desperately looking for who dares to present himself”.
