Buffon: “I’m not retiring”

Juventus veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon said Wednesday that he continues to play soccer at the age of 42 because he still feels “good” and because he remembers the effort he made as a child to become a professional soccer player.

“I do not stop playing because I still feel good, but also to respect the dreams I had when I was a child. At that time I would never have imagined arriving where I have arrived”, Buffon said in statements published on the official Juventus website.

Buffon, who turned 42 on January 28, returned to Juventus this year after a season at French Paris Saint Germain and is the substitute for Pole Wojciech Szczesny. So far he has played eleven games, with good level benefits.

The veteran Italian goalkeeper is in this period isolated, like the rest of the Italian citizens, because of the coronavirus emergency and stressed the importance of following the rules established by the government to limit the risk of contagion.

“For those who live in the city in an apartment it is complicated, but we must have respect for others and follow the indications they give us. This experience will unite us even more”Buffon stated.

“I'm not bad at home, after the first two or three days in which I had to adapt, now I feel good. I have fun cooking. When necessary, I know how to do it. My recipe is pasta with tomato sauce and tuna. I sell it perfecting for 25 years, “he joked.
