Oscar Piastri renews with McLaren

MADRID, 12 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Australian pilot Oscar Piastri has signed a “multiannual contract” with the British team McLaren, with which he had already committed until 2026, before starting his third season at the World Cup in Formula 1 this weekend at the Australian Grand Prix.

Piastri, 23, finished fourth in the championship last year, opening his Victorias record at the Hungary Grand Prix before awarding a second win in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. McLaren, current champion of the World Cup, will feature the oceanic pilot and the British Lando Norris in his ranks, in a course in which he aspires to the world title.

“It is a great feeling to know that I am part of McLaren’s long -term vision. The team believed in me when we signed in 2022, and the trip we have made in the last two seasons to help return to McLaren to the top of the sport has been incredible,” said Piastri in statements provided by his team.

“There are many special and talented people working in McLaren who has helped me to become a formula 1 winner very soon in my career. I am very proud to continue representing this legendary team for many years. I am excited to fight for the great awards as a McLaren driver and after the fantastic achievements of last year I am even more hungry to continue at the foot of the cannon,” he added.

The executive director of McLaren, Zak Brown, described the news of renewal as “fantastic.” “It is not only an incredibly talented pilot, but its ethics of work and the cultural adjustment within the team made it an obvious to extend their ‘papaya’ time. We have the best pair of grid pilots and, in the last two seasons, we have seen how valuable Oscar is for the team, both on and off the track,” he said.

“It was absolutely fundamental to add to our Palmarés the 2024 Construction Championship last season, so we are all excited to see what we can do in the coming years while we continue fighting together for the world championships,” he concluded.
