“In summer I think that in 2025 there will be a change in the 3×3,” the Paris 2024 silver medalist predicts to Europa Press
MADRID, 25 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish basketball player Vega Gimeno describes her year 2024 as “surreal”, with the flash of the silver medal won in the 3×3 tournament during the Paris Olympic Games and seasoning what for her, as a joke, “has been a series wonderful documentary” since its withdrawal from the 5×5 and “that someone has missed by not filming it.
“For me it has been a surreal 2024. I wouldn’t say it was expected, deserved or anything, no; the truth is it has been surreal, everything that has happened to us has been beautiful. Since I announced that I was retiring from 5×5, the truth is that it has been a wonderful documentary series, that someone has missed by not filming it But nothing, it has been a dream 2024, these are the years that you know will not be repeated,” he acknowledged. Gimeno to Europa Press after attending the recent XIX COE Gala.
Despite the rise of 3×3 as a result of that Parisian silver, the former captain of Casademont Zaragoza stressed that claiming “is a bit of the daily life of women’s sports” in general, not just its basketball form. “And I would tell you that even more so about minority sports, which we have always been demanding visibility and attention,” he added.
“It seems good to me that documentaries are made about stories of improvement, I think it is necessary for people to see it so that they can see what it costs to return to the elite or what it costs to be at a certain level. It is also true that it is cool to me watching documentaries about good news, about achievements, about everything behind it, but then it turns out well. But hey, it’s true that sometimes it’s not like that…” he noted.
“We as a 3×3 team have always asked for a lot of visibility, we have demanded that the media please pay attention to us because we truly believe that what we have in our hands is something cool and beautiful, and that people are hooked. And look, There is no greater proof than what the Games have been, which have had a wonderful reception,” Gimeno highlighted about his sweet medal from Paris 2024.
However, he was cautious about the impact of his success. In addition to that Olympic silver, she later won gold in the European Championship with Sandra Ygueravide, Juana Camilión and Gracia Alonso de Armiño. “It’s what we always say that the difficult thing is not to get there but to stay. Well, this is going to be a bit like this. We have arrived, we have won an Olympic silver and I do notice that there has been a ‘boom’; but of course, I don’t I know if this ‘boom’ is going to be about money and will last as long as these ‘booms’ of a few months last or if it will really continue,” he warned.
“Only time will tell, but of course what we want is for this to continue, for that little stone to start building things. What we hope is that it will happen, I’m seeing it at the moment, but I don’t know. , because not enough time has passed yet. Right now we have attention, that is evident,” he admitted.
On the other hand, Gimeno predicted a “calm” 2025 and in his most comfortable habitat. “I’m finally back home. I’ll be in Valencia training, staying active because in the end, in some way or another, I’m linked to the national team and the 3×3,” she said.
“And then the 3×3 season in the summer. They compete during the year with the 5×5, so let’s see. In the summer I think that this year in the 3×3 there will be a change, I think there is a bit of a change in many things and I hope that others improve,” concluded the medalist in Paris.
