José Pablo López begins to design the team that will accompany him in his journey as president of RTVE and the first name that comes up is that of a former Mediaset director, Sergio Calderón, who is emerging as ‘number two’ of the public channel. Calderón currently works at the production company Fabricantes Studio, owner of Not even if we werethe new Sálvame that TEN broadcasts.
José Pablo López’s idea is to appoint Calderón as director of TVE, his right-hand man in the network and, therefore, responsible for programming – the entire grid except Telediario -, as it progresses The Worldwhich points out that the contract is closed although the president has not informed the Board of Directors. It must be remembered that, according to the new law approved in Congress by the Government and its partners, the president of RTVE has the capacity to directly appoint his management team without the need to put it to a vote with the rest of the directors.
Sergio Calderón was, for years, director of Mediaset. He belonged to the founding team of Cuatro as Head of Audience and Content Research (2005-2011). In the last 13 years, during the ‘Vasile era’, his professional career has been linked to Mediaset’s DTT channels with highly recognized work within the sector. He was director of Divinity since 2011 and creator of the design and brand of this channel, responsible for Energy since 2014 and also head of BeMad since 2016.
A few months ago, Calderón was dismissed by the new Mediaset leadership headed by Alessandro Salem. In June he signed with Fabricantes Studio, the new production company of Óscar Cornejo and Adrián Madrid, the parents of save mewith the position of director of Content, Innovation, Marketing and Communication.
Sergio Calderón’s departure from RTVE could pave the way for the arrival of Fabricantes and the ‘Sálvame universe’ to the public channel just when an afternoon section of La 1 becomes free after the cancellation of The Modern y The Hunter. The end of the series and the program is scheduled for March-April, dates for which TVE would already have to have a new evening offer prepared to compete against the magazines of Ana Rosa Quintana (Telecinco) and Sonsoles Ónega (Antena 3).
