Julián Muñoz, former mayor of Marbella and Isabel Pantoja’s ex, dies at 76

Julián Muñoz has died at the age of 76 after battling for several months against a cancer that he himself called “galloping” and that was diagnosed after a fall.

“I knew I had a tumor because I have been a smoker for 60 years. The tumor was detected because I fell, fell again and broke the fourth lumbar vertebra. From there, they did X-rays and various tests, and a lung tumor was detected. It was detected in January with an expiration date, but we don’t know when it was,” he explained himself in his last interview on television.

It was in 2003 when Julián Muñoz’s name began to be heard loud and clear in the media when he officially began a romantic relationship with Isabel Pantoja. A love that caused the mayor of Marbella to break up with his wife, Mayte Zaldívar.

“I don’t know how much time I have left but I’m not going to give any more interviews, this is the last one,” confessed Julián Muñoz on the program ‘¡De viernes!’ the last time we saw him on screen. An interview that gave a lot to talk about because in it he confessed his love for Mayte Zaldívar and the regret he had for the harm he did to her family in the past. “I have not been happy with that person and I don’t have good memories. My time in that lady’s life was disastrous. Isabel Pantoja doesn’t do anything without a plan. I don’t want to know anything about her, for me she doesn’t exist,” confessed Julián.

After their controversial separation and the years in prison, Mayte managed to forgive the former mayor and together they confirmed that they had remarried because this was Julián’s last wish. He has been supported by his entire family during these months in which he has been fighting cancer. His grandchildren, daughters and, above all, Mayte, have not left his side for a single moment when he has needed them most.
