Fran Escribá, the new coach of Granada

MADRID, 24 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Valencian coach Fran Escribá will lead Granada CF until the end of the season, the club confirmed on Monday, and will replace Guillermo Abascal, who was dismissed after the draw against Málaga (2-2) on Friday in the sixth round of LaLiga Hypermotion.

Escribá began his coaching career at Elche CF, where he coached for three seasons (2012-15). He later coached Getafe (2015-16), Villarreal CF (2016-17), RC Celta de Vigo (2019), Elche again (2021) and finally Real Zaragoza (from November 2022 to November 2023).

Sevilla coach Guillermo Abascal was dismissed after just six games of the season, with one win, three draws and two defeats that leave the Granada team sixteenth with a two-point lead over the relegation zone. At Nuevo Los Cármenes against Málaga, the home team had the victory in their grasp, but let the three points slip away in stoppage time, when they conceded a 2-2 draw and also missed a penalty.

Abascal arrived in Granada this summer after a career that had been spent in Swiss and Italian football. The last job of the coach before arriving at Nuevo Los Cármenes was at Spartak Moscow.
