Valery storms Villamarín for Mallorca

MADRID, 23 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A goal from Valery in the 93rd minute allowed RCD Mallorca to come back against Real Betis this Monday at the Benito Villamarín (1-2) in the last match of the sixth round of LaLiga EA Sports, a result that allows the Balearic team to add their second consecutive victory and rise to fifth position in the table.

In a frenetic first half at the Seville stadium, the Argentine Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring very early on with a powerful shot from the edge of the box that Dominik Greif could do nothing about (min. 7). However, just a minute later and straight after the centre was taken, Mallorca responded to the blow; Samu Costa put a long ball in for Cyle Larin and he passed it to Dani Rodríguez, who with a cross shot put it beyond the reach of Rui Silva (min. 8).

Vitor Roque, for the Verdiblancos, and Robert Navarro, for the Bermellón team, brought danger to the rival areas in a match of frenetic pace that was on the verge of being cut short when, in the 33rd minute, García Verdura sent off Lo Celso; however, the referee reviewed the action and withdrew the red card from the Argentine. In addition, before the break, in the 41st minute, Sergi Darder saw how the referee disallowed his header goal for previous offside.

Abde opened the second half with a magnificent shot that hit the post, and Greif saved the Balearic team by stopping a shot from Vítor Roque. In the 62nd minute, Robert Navarro missed the 1-2 with a header into the hands of the Betis goalkeeper when he was completely alone.

The Mallorcan goalkeeper was still present to save a providential save from a cross shot by Héctor Ruibal, and, in stoppage time, the visiting team came back. In the 93rd minute, Valery took advantage of a corner kick to score the second and give his team the three points.

Mallorca thus secured their second consecutive win and moved up to fifth place in the table with 11 points, just one point above the Champions League. Manuel Pellegrini’s men, who will face UD Las Palmas at the Estadio de Gran Canaria on Thursday, remain eleventh with eight points, four above the relegation zone.
