Pegula cuts short Bouzas’ path at the US Open

MADRID, 31 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Jessica Bouzas was eliminated this Thursday in the round of 32 of the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year, after losing 6-3, 6-3 to American Jessica Pegula, sixth seed in this tournament that is being played on hard courts at the Flushing Meadows facilities (New York).

At Arthur Ashe Stadium, a truly imposing venue, Bouzas started off solidly on serve. She even saved two break points in the fifth game, but her opponent did not waste another similar opportunity in the seventh (4-3). With that advantage, Pegula consolidated the break immediately and, to top it off, broke to love to win the first set.

At the start of the next set, the Pontevedra native quickly found herself 2-0 down, but reacted with a break in her favour in the fifth game (3-2) and equalised the score, not without a few scares when she had to save a 30-40 in the following game. However, the local player showed her talent to make it 4-3 on her serve and immediately afterwards 5-3 on return.

Pegula quickly took her next service game to a clean slate and sealed the victory in less than an hour and a quarter of the match. After winning this Jessicas duel, the American will face the winner of the match between Italian Sara Errani and Russian Diana Shnaider in the round of 16.
