Michael Woods wins in Ancares and Roglic closes in on the lead

MADRID, 30 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Canadian cyclist Michael Woods (Israel Premier Tech) won this Friday the thirteenth stage of La Vuelta 2024, between Lugo and Puerto de Ancares over 176 kilometers, achieving his third victory in the Spanish race, while the Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Red Bull BORA Hansgrohe) showed power and recovered 1:55 on the lead of the Australian Ben O’Connor (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale Team), who entered into crisis on the final climb.

The Canadian climber was the most intelligent of the winning breakaway and knew how to regulate his efforts on the demanding climb to Ancares, while, in the group of favourites, the winner of three editions of the Spanish race, delivered a coup de grace by gaining a large lead over the rest of the favourites, and closing in just 1:21 on the leader of the general classification.

The Spanish tour will contest its fourteenth stage this Saturday on a medium mountain route between Villafranca del Bierzo and Villablino over 200.5 kilometres, another stage designed for the breakaway to win, and which will be a prelude to the decisive day on Sunday, with the feared ascent to Cuitu Negru, where a change of leader is expected to occur.
