Julian Nagelsmann leaves Real Madrid’s Antonio Rüdiger out of Germany squad

MADRID, 29 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann announced on Thursday the squad for Germany’s UEFA Nations League matches against Hungary and the Netherlands, a squad in which the notable absence, beyond the expected Neuer, Gündogan, Müller and the retired Toni Kroos, is that of Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rüdiger.

Nagelsmann has revealed the first squad list after Euro 2024, which does not include the retired Manuel Neuer, Ilkay Gündogan, Toni Kroos and Thomas Müller. More surprising was the absence of Real Madrid’s Rüdiger, who is not among those chosen by the German coach, although the German Football Association reported that the player agreed with the coach to take some time off after an intense summer.

The only representative of Spanish football in the squad is Barça goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. The squad also includes key players from the German team’s Euro 2019 campaign, such as Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz.

Germany will face Hungary in Düsseldorf on 7 September and the Netherlands in Amsterdam on 10 September, two matches corresponding to the first two rounds of the UEFA Nations League.
