Carlo Ancelotti seeks to ‘catch’ Miguel Muñoz with his fourteenth title with Real Madrid

MADRID, 13 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will have the chance to make history on Wednesday if he wins the European Super Cup against Italian side Atalanta, which would allow him to equal the legendary Miguel Muñoz as the most successful manager of the Merengue team.

Last season, the Reggiolo native won three more trophies as Real Madrid coach: the EA Sports LaLiga, the Champions League and the Spanish Super Cup, bringing his total to 13, nine of them in his second spell at the club, having only won one Champions League, one Copa del Rey, one European Super Cup and one Club World Cup in his first, between 2013 and 2015.

The second has been more fruitful, starting in 2021 with two Champions Leagues, two La Ligas, a Copa del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups, a European Super Cup and a Club World Cup, leaving him one behind Miguel Muñoz, the most successful Real Madrid coach in history with 14 trophies – 9 La Ligas, 2 European Cups, 2 Cups and 1 Intercontinental Cup – although in his case he did so in the 14 seasons, from 1960 to 1974, that he occupied the dugout.
