Cameroonian boxer Cindy Ngamba certifies the first medal in the history of the Refugee Olympic Team

Uzbekistan’s Hasanboy Dusmatov and China’s Yuan Chang have won gold medals in the 51 kg and 54 kg boxing categories at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Thursday, after beating France’s Billal Bennama (0-5) and Turkey’s Hatice Akbas (5-0).

Bennama and Akbas won the two silver medals in these weight classes during an evening that was once again held at the Roland Garros tennis tournament facilities. There were also semi-final matches for the men’s 57 kg category and for the women’s 75 kg category.

In the 57 kg men’s category, Australian Charlie Senior and Bulgarian Javier Ibáñez Díaz, of Cuban origin, suffered respective defeats against Uzbek Abdumalik Khalokov (5-0) and Kyrgyz Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu (4-1), and took home the two bronzes in contention.

In the 75kg women’s weight class, Australian Caitlin Parker and Cameroonian refugee Cindy Winner Djankeu Ngamba lost, respectively, to China’s Qian Li (5-0) and Panama’s Atheyna Bibeichi Bylon (1-4), settling for the bronze medals they shared.
