Scamacca tears his cruciate ligament and is out for Atalanta for the European Super Cup

MADRID, 5 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury he sustained this Sunday in a friendly with the Bergamo team, which means he will be out for the European Super Cup final on August 14 against Real Madrid, according to a statement.

“Gianluca Scamacca has undergone diagnostic tests which have revealed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo an arthroscopic operation early this afternoon,” the Italian club announced on its website.

Scamacca was injured in Atalanta’s friendly against Parma, which resulted in a 4-1 defeat for the Bergamo side. The number nine had to be substituted in the 50th minute due to a knee injury that ended up being a torn cruciate ligament. The Italian team will lose its attacking star for at least six months, although the closest match is the European Super Cup on 14 August, in Poland against Real Madrid.

Gian Piero Gasperini will have to reorganise his starting eleven in the absence of one of the names that played in the Italian team last season, in which he scored 19 goals and provided 8 assists for the Bergamo team. However, his form in the Euros with Italy was not what was expected, without scoring in the four games that the transalpine team played.
