Lahm calls the booing of Cucurella “silly” and “exhausting”

MADRID, 14 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former Germany player and Euro 2024 director Philipp Lahm has criticised the booing of Spanish player Marc Cucurella by German fans during the semi-final between Spain and France, calling it “silly” and “exhausting”.

“At one point I thought the whistles were a bit silly. What should Cucurella have done against Germany? Go to the referee and say: ‘I played with my hand’? I found the whistles throughout the game exhausting,” the former German player and 2016 World Cup winner told Bild.

Cucurella was booed throughout Spain’s semi-final against France after a handball in the quarter-final against Germany failed to result in a penalty before Spain won 2-1, something Lahm initially found “funny”. “I hope the player could laugh about it too, because it was simply a sign that German pain was still deep,” he said.
