Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu will lock horns in the first NBA vs. WNBA 3-Point Challenge.
The NBA said Tuesday that Golden State Warriors wing Stephen Curry and New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu will play a head-to-head 3-point contest.
The game, called “Stephen vs. Sabrina,” will be the very first NBA vs. WNBA 3-Point Challenge. They will happen at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Feb. 17 during the State Farm All-Star Saturday Night.
During the competition, every 3-pointer made is worth $1,000. The “money ball” is worth $2,000, and the “STARRY Range Ball,” which is made from 29 feet, 9 inches away, is worth $3,000.
Both the NBA and the WNBA will give money to Curry’s Eat.Learn.Play nonprofit and Ionescu’s SI20 Foundation.
For every shot made by either of the two stars, State Farm will give more money to the NBA Foundation to help Black people get ahead financially.
Every 3-pointer is worth $1,000, the “money ball” is worth $2,000, and the “STARRY Range Ball” is worth $3,000. Curry’s Eat. Learn says that both players play for charity. The NBA and WNBA will give money to Play and Ionescu’s SI20 Foundation.
The star guards from the Golden State Warriors and the New York Liberty are taking part in the first-ever NBA vs. WNBA 3-point challenge on Feb. 17 in Indianapolis during All-Star Saturday Night.
The “Stephen vs. Sabrina” shootout will follow the rules of the 3-Point Contest, but Curry is going to shoot NBA balls from the 23-foot-9-inch NBA 3-point line and Ionescu will shoot WNBA balls from the 20-foot-6-inch WNBA arc.
WNBA single-season 3-point mark holder Ionescu set the record with 37 out of 40 shots in the final round in the WNBA 3-Point Contest in July. She then went up against the two-time NBA 3-Point Contest winner.
Steph Curry, who has made more 3-point shots than anyone else in NBA history, will compete against Sabrina Ionescu, a star in the WNBA and a native of Walnut Creek, in a 3-point aiming contest during the All-Star weekend in Indy on February 17. The league announced this Tuesday.
He has won the 3-point challenge twice at All-Star weekend, in 2015 and 2021. New York Liberty star Ionescu broke Curry’s record of 31 points by scoring a record 37 points in the 2023 WNBA All-Star 3-point contest. She did this by making 25 of 27 shots.
After Ionescu broke the record, he challenged Curry to a fight. Curry hinted that this matchup could be coming up while he was on the mic with rookie Brandin Podziemski before last week’s game between the Warriors and the Sacramento Kings.
The rules say Ionescu has to shoot from the WNBA 3-point line, which is 1 foot 9 inches closer to the hoop than the NBA 3-point line.
However, Ionescu said on social media that she would rather shoot from the NBA 3-point line during the game. It was with the New York Liberty in 2023 that Ionescu set a single-season 3-point record.
She is a two-time WNBA All-Star guard. The 26-year-old from Walnut Creek was the best guard coming from Miramonte Academy in 2016.
Curry wasn’t named an All-Star starter when the preliminary lineups were released last week. This is the first moment since 2013 that Curry hasn’t been on that list while healthy.
All nine times he’s been an All-Star, the 35-year-old player has been named a starter. He still has a chance to make the Western Conference team as a reserve when the entire team is revealed Thursday on TNT.
The match between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu is happening. This is likely the most important news about the All-Star Game in Indianapolis.
It looks like the best three-point shot in NBA history will be going up against the young Ionescu on February 17. It’s the first time that an NBA player has played against a WNBA player.
Each league has a different three-point line, so both players might be shooting from the standard distance for their league.
She will shoot from a line 20 feet 6 inches long, and Curry will score from a line 23 feet 9 inches long.
