Alavés knocks Betis out of the Cup and Girona defeats a brave Elche

Rayo needs extra time to eliminate Huesca and Getafe takes a close victory against Espanyol

MADRID, 6 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Betis has been eliminated from the Copa del Rey after losing this Saturday in the Primera duel against Deportivo Alavés (1-0) in the round of 32 of the competition, in a round in which Girona has advanced to Costa del Elche (0-2), in which Rayo Vallecano needed extra time to get rid of Huesca (0-2) and in which Getafe beat Espanyol (0-1) with a goal from Luis Milla in the final minutes.

A goal from Uruguayan Carlos Benavídez in the 57th minute did justice to the Babazorro team and decided the clash in Mendizorrotza, the only one between teams in the highest category of Spanish football this Saturday. The Equatoguinean goalkeeper Jesús Owono supported Luis García Plaza's men in the few arrivals that Manuel Pellegrini's men had.

Shortly after the match resumed, Kike García was about to open the scoring, but the ball, after his flat shot, licked the post. However, Benavídez did not miss shortly after in a shot adjusted to the size of Rui Silva's goal.

The co-leader of LaLiga EA Sports, on his visit to Martínez Valero, pulled out all the stops to defeat an Elche team (0-2) that offered a brave approach but succumbed to the goals of Daley Blind and Yan Couto and crashed with a great Juan Carlos, who made worthy saves.

Without complexes, the team from Elche, twelfth ranked in LaLiga Hypermotion, at times subjected the great revelation of the season, but a blow by the Dutch defender in the final stretch of the first 45 minutes, collecting a ball from a kick-off at the far post corner, extinguished his momentum (min.37).

Despite everything, Míchel's men survived three clear local chances when the match resumed, which they ended in the 67th minute after Brazilian Yan Couto sent a great pass from Portu into the back of the net.

At the Stage Front Stadium, Getafe beat Espanyol with a solitary goal from Luis Milla in the 87th minute (0-1). Before the quarter-hour mark, the Danish Martin Braithwaite had a very clear chance that Gastón thwarted, while the Azulón team, which he formed with many of his starters, was not able to reach the danger zone.

José Bordalás's team reacted in the final stretch of the first half, although without success, with options from Greenwood and Maksimovic, and Luis Miguel Ramis' team pressed at the beginning of the second. With extra time threatening, Luis Milla took advantage of a play with Enes Ünal to beat Joan García and eliminate the Azulones from the 'KO' tournament.

Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano had to wait until the last minutes of extra time to eliminate Huesca (0-2). After an inconsequential first half in El Alcoraz, the locals warned after the break with shots from Lombardo and Kortajarena and forced Vallecano's anguish, but extra time was inevitable.

Already in the second half of extra time, Hugo Vallejo was able to put the visiting team ahead, but it was Óscar Valentín who, in the 118th minute, opened the scoring assisted by Radamel Falcao, just four minutes before Isi signed the final 0-0 2.
