MADRID, 26 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The French athlete Pierre-Ambroise Bosse, 800 meters world champion in 2017, announced this Tuesday his retirement from professional sports at the age of 31, after having suffered a relapse of a femoral biceps injury that already forced him to undergo surgery in 2022.
During an interview with the French newspaper 'L'Équipe', Bosse commented that this relapse had precipitated the end of his elite sporting career. Therefore, the Nantes middle distance runner will not participate in the Paris Olympic Games next summer.
“I want to go to the Games, but I know my body won't let me. It's really over! […] “There's not much left to do unless I get a titanium tendon graft,” he joked. “I've already decided. It has been an extremely difficult time. Now I want to speak out and tell people that I will never be on a running track again. “I feel better since I made the decision,” Bosse said during the interview.
A fourth place in Rio 2016 was his best Olympic result, within a track record where that gold medal obtained at the London 2017 Outdoor World Cup shines. Similarly, Bosse achieved two bronzes at the 2012 European Championships (Helsinki) and 2018 (Berlin). And with 1:42.53 he remains fifth on the European all-time list in 800 meters.
