Barça beats BM Logroño and wins the Spanish Handball Cup

MADRID, 17 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Barça defeated BM Logroño La Rioja (31-28) to lift the Spanish Cup, a tournament that replaces the Asobal Cup, in the edition held at the Artaleku Municipal Sports Center (Irún).

The name change, but not the format, and the dispute between the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM) and ASOBAL, did not prevent Barça from lifting a new national title this Sunday. The 19th Cup and the 13th in a row for the Catalans, counting the Asobal Cup so far, was tied until the last minutes.

Aleix Gómez (8 goals) and Dika Mem (7) were the top scorers for Carlos Ortega's team, who are going on vacation with a new title, before the Christmas break and the dispute after the European National Team Championship.

After an even start to the final, Barça adjusted its defense and achieved the first differences (16-10). The dynamic continued to be Barça's in the second half, but despite a 23-16 lead with 15 minutes remaining, Logroño reached the final with three goals in a row from Xavi Tua, although without preventing the culé title.
