Sevilla sinks in the Champions League

The Andalusian team falls (2-3) against PSV and says goodbye to the Champions League despite having a 2-0 lead until the 68th minute

MADRID, 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sevilla FC was eliminated from the Champions League this Wednesday on the penultimate day of the group stage by losing (2-3) to PSV Eindhoven at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, despite the fact that the locals had a 2-0 until minute 68.

The calculations in Nervión were almost solely about winning, a pending issue this campaign in Europe, and the goals from Sergio Ramos, in the 24th minute, and Youssef En-Nesyri, at the beginning of the second half, put them in stark relief. Too nice for a denied team, with one victory in the last 12 games, and that collapsed in the last 20 minutes playing with 10.

Two yellow cards in a row for Lucas Ocampos, a goal from Ismael Saibari, and Sevilla began to tremble, unable to face a PSV that attacked in waves and who saw the opportunity to secure their place in the round of 16 in Group B. Yorbe Vertessen, who came on at the end of the first half for the injured Hirving Lozano, personalized the nightmare, the ghost that intimidated all of Nervión.

Pizjuán feared the tragedy that was coming, due to the attack of a superior PSV. In the 84th minute, Gudelj was the one who scored his own goal, after a shot by Vertessen, the best of the Dutch, without a mark on a right wing without Jesús Navas. The captain forced himself after a threat of injury but with the score at 2-0 it seemed like the job was well underway when he was substituted in the 58th minute.

With Diego Alonso in charge, the fourth coach in a year, the board appointed, everything turned in that bitter direction that haunts Sevilla. A yellow for Ocampos for protesting in the 63rd minute and three minutes later, another for going hard to cut off a ball, with the misfortune of stumbling and even risking the injury.

Saibari’s great goal forced changes in the home team, but there was no reaction, nor a defense to stop the bleeding. After 2-2, with nothing to lose, Sevilla regained its composure, but risked neglecting a defense that has not worked for a long time. In Vertessen’s race and Pepi’s header, the Andalusian team died in the top competition, with a thread still for the Europa League.
