When tragedy struck Fernández Tapias: his son Bosco died in a diving accident

Businessman Fernando Fernandez Tapias has died at the age of 84, as reported this Wednesday by journalist Carlos Herrera. The former president of the Madrid Business Confederation-CEOE and first vice president of the Real Madrid Football Club was known for his outstanding role in the professional field, but also for some aspects of his personal life. He was married three times and had eight children, one of them, Boscowho died tragically in 2010.

The death of the young man It was a hard blow for the family. Bosco disappeared on September 28, 2010, and nothing was heard from him until two years later, when his body was found lifeless in Lanzarote.

The young man lost his life after suffering an accident while scuba diving. The Security Forces suspected from the first moment that something had happened to the young man during the dive, but neither his body nor his equipment were ever found, despite the extensive search effort that was organized.

It was in June 2012 when the Investigative Court number 2 of Arrecife received evidence proving that the body found by another diver at a depth of 90 meters was that of the businessman’s son.

The two years of searching became endless for the businessman, who refused to accept the possibility that his son had died. An example of this were the statements that Nuria González, widow of the businessman, gave an interview in which she spoke about Bosco in the present tense.

“Bosco is a very athletic man, he loves scuba diving, a sport he has practiced for a long time. Also archery. He is a bohemian who also dedicated himself to painting. Three months ago, he went to live in Lanzarote. He rented an apartment in an area called Las Caletas, near Teguise, and from what we talked about and what he told his brothers, he lived happily. He has many friends who are the ones who have given clues,” he explained. The family said goodbye to him in the strictest privacy.

Bosco, fruit of Fernández Tapias’ first marriage with Chiqui de la Rivahad three blood brothers: Fernando, Borja and Íñigo. The four were the first children of the businessman, who later welcomed Juan Carlos y Sandra -were born during marriage with Juana García-Courel– e Ivan y Alma -children of the tycoon with Nuria González-.
