The Spanish athlete Paula García will not be part, due to injury, of the women’s 4×100 team at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, which will be held from August 19 to 27, and Esther Navero will take her place in the relay, this has confirmed. Monday the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA).
The Madrid native, bronze in the same event at the last European Games in Chorzów (Poland), fell from a team now made up of Jaël-Sakura Bestué, Lucía Carrillo, Carmen Marco, Maribel Pérez, Paula Sevilla and Esther Navero.
Last Thursday, the RFEA reported that Spain would go to the World Championship with an initial selection of 56 athletes, the third largest in its history and for the first time with more women (29) than men, and with some notable absence such as the Mariano García, current indoor world champion and 800-meter European champion.
In addition, the national coach José Peiró confirmed that this list could be expanded if three possible invitations from World Athletics were accepted for Carolina Robles (3000 obstacles), María Vicente (length) and Laura Redondo (hammer).
