The Netherlands meets with Spain

MADRID, 6 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Netherlands team, current runner-up in the world, will be Spain’s rival next Friday in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after getting rid of South Africa this Sunday, which they beat 2-0, supported by his effectiveness and the good work of his goalkeeper.

The Dutch team found themselves in a comfortable setting when they managed to take the lead very early on the scoreboard. Before the 10th minute and after a corner kick, midfielder Jill Roord extended her inspiration in this World Cup and made it 1-0 with her fourth goal of the tournament.

The 2017 European champion had possession and almost always dominated the match, but her rival knew how to threaten her, especially with the figure of Thembi Kgatlana who enjoyed two good chances to equalize before the break. However, Daphne van Domselaar made it clear that she is one of the best goalkeepers in this World Cup and avoided it, with great merit in the second, a one-on-one from the South African striker after a bad delivery in the middle.

After the break, the game did not change too much. The Dutch maintained their dominance and controlled well a South Africa side whose dream came to naught in the 68th minute when their keeper Kaylin Swart failed to save an apparently simple shot from Lineth Beerensteyn.

The advantage strengthened the current runner-up in the world, but Van Domselaar still had time to put in some more worthwhile hands to avoid last minute pressure. For Friday against Spain, he will not be able to count on a key piece like midfielder Daniëlle van de Donk due to suspension.
