Juanma Lillo returns to Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at City

MADRID, 4 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The English Manchester City, current champion of Europe and the Premier League, announced this Friday the return of the Spanish Juanma Lillo to the coaching staff led by Pep Guardiola and in which he was already between 2020 and 2021.

The ‘citizen’ team recalled that the 57-year-old coach “became an essential component” of Santpedor’s technical team in his first stage, which ended to be the first coach of Al-Sadd in Qatar. “Juanma is a brilliant thinker and coach, who has a clear understanding of how the game should be played,” Aitor Begiristain, City’s director of football, stressed on the club’s website.

“His vision is fully aligned with Pep’s. They both love this game and want their teams to produce high-quality attacking football at all times. He also has great knowledge of football around the world and experience in different leagues and styles means he brings insights that can complement not only our coaching setup but also our scouting system,” he added.

For his part, Guardiola himself pointed out that Lillo “sees things that no one else in the game sees” and that he “understands football at an incredible level.” “He is the perfect person to work with me. I have always been inspired by him and his knowledge of football, his intelligence and his humanity distinguish him as a very special person in my life. He is a friend, a colleague and an inspiration, so I am very happy that he is back here at Manchester City”, he stressed.
