Spain will compete to be fifth in the Softball World Cup in Valencia

MADRID, 21 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish women’s softball team ran out of options to play the World Cup playoffs that are taking place in Valencia, with the trick now of being fifth without being able to reach the Finals next summer, after the triumphs of Puerto Rico.

The host needed the Caribbean team to fail in their first game of matchday four against the Netherlands, but Puerto Rico’s triumph left Spain without options. In the last game of the day, the Spanish team couldn’t beat the Caribbean either.

The American team and China met in the final that will grant a direct ticket to the Final Phase next summer in Italy. Spain took the lead twice against Puerto Rico, thanks to runs by Candela Garcia and Sorangel Ledezma.

However, the fourth inning reduced the differences and, in the sixth, with up to seven runs from the Caribbean, Spain fell. Tatiana Román, Aminah Vega (3), Jenna Cozza, Carsyn Gordon, Janelle Martínez, Odalys Cordova (2), Macey Cintron and Kathyria García (2) certified the comeback to seal a 12-2.
