Access to Q2 in MotoGP will be decided in the new ‘Practice’ on Friday

MADRID, 17 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ‘Grand Prix Commission’ has decided that access to Q2 of MotoGP in the motorcycle world championship is from the new ‘Practice’ on Friday, lasting 60 minutes, and not with the sum of the first two hitherto free practice sessions

The Commission, made up of the presidents of Dorna, FIM, IRTA and MSMA, modified the practice sessions of the MotoGP class and, specifically, those that affect entry into Q2 (qualifying for the race).

With these changes, the first practice session in the premier class of a Grand Prix weekend will no longer count towards access to Q2. To avoid Q1 and go directly to the second and final qualifying round, the drivers will have to be fast in the new ‘Practice’.

On Friday, the first free practice session (FP1 or Free Practice 1) will continue to be 45 minutes, but the one that was FP2 is renamed ‘Practice’ and increases to 60 minutes, to be the only one that will give access to the Q2 on Saturday.

The 30-minute session on Saturday morning will now be called FP2 (Free Practice 2, formerly FP3 or Free Practice 3).

There are no changes with respect to Q1 and Q2, of 15 minutes each and taking place on Saturday, before the short race to the Sprint. On Sunday the ‘warm up’ of 10 minutes before the long race is maintained.
