Spanish international Rudy Fernández has confirmed that he will retire from the Spanish team in 2024 and that the Paris Olympics, as long as Sergio Scariolo’s side qualify and he is fit, will be his “last tournament”.
“(This year’s) It is my last World Cup for sure, because they are every four years. It will be my last World Cup for sure. There are still many training sessions left and I hope I can be (…) I promised my father that the Olympic Games would be my last tournament and I think it will be like that. It may be that I reach the Games and that’s where my career with the Spanish team ends,” he said during the presentation of his campus.
In addition, the Real Madrid forward was happy to have entered Sergio Scariolo’s shortlist for Mundobasket this summer. “I am very excited, very happy to be back in a call for the Spanish team at 38 years old and that the coach continues to call me to be able to be in team dynamics and to be able to help the youngest in the minutes that I am,” he said.
On the other hand, the Spaniard announced that he is about to renew with the white team. “My priority is to be one more year at Real Madrid, I still have to sign and it’s almost done,” he concluded.
