Conversations between referees and VAR will be public in Serie A

ROME (ITALY), 4 Jul. (dpa/EP) –

The communication between the referees and the referees in charge of video arbitration (VAR) in the Italian Serie A matches will be made public during the 23-24 season on a trial basis, as announced by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

The FIGC has reported that an agreement has been reached with the DAZN portal to offer the different conversations with the main referee and the video arbitration room as protagonists. A communication that will not be broadcast live, but will be available after each day, according to a statement released.

The aim of the Italian federation is to highlight how “difficult” it can be for referees to make various decisions, despite video reviews and VAR checks. “We want the greatest possible transparency,” said Gabriele Gravina, president of the FIGC.
