MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
San Fernando (Cádiz) hosts the best blind and visually impaired footballers between this Saturday and Monday during the celebration of the Spanish Football and Futsal Championships for people with visual disabilities, organized by the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind ( FEDC), with the collaboration of the ONCE and the City Council of the Cadiz town.
As reported by ONCE, the two tournaments will bring together the four best-ranked teams throughout this season in the national league within their respective categories. In 5-a-side football, a modality for blind athletes (B1), the teams from Seville, Tarragona, Madrid and Granada will face each other, while in futsal, for athletes of classes B2/B3, the teams from Fuenlabrada A ( Madrid), Albacete, Malaga and Barcelona. All will be measured in a league, qualifying for the grand final on Monday, June 12, the first two teams.
The Seville team comes to the competition as the current champion of the league in football for the blind after achieving full victories during the season; while Fuenlabrada A can start as a favorite in futsal after winning the league with a single defeat in the regular season.
Soccer for the blind needs a greater number of adaptations for its development as a sound ball; side fences that avoid out of bounds, sighted goalkeepers or guides that help, while visually impaired players hardly need adaptations
to be able to compete, except for achieving a contrast between the color of the ball and the ground, of the goal and the background, and lighting of the same intensity during the 40 minutes of real play that the match lasts, so they play in a covered pavilion.
