Polina Berezina, qualified for the hoop final at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships

The Spanish gymnast Polina Berezina has qualified this Thursday for the hoop final at the 39th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship, which is being held in Baku (Azerbaijan), while her compatriot Alba Bautista will act as second reserve in that instance for the continental title.

On the first day of competition for the senior category, the two representatives of Spain jumped onto the mat of the Milli Gimnastika Arenasi in the fourth round of classification day. They did it together with athletes from Lithuania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Italy, Israel, Serbia, San Marino, Romania and the United Kingdom.

In the hoop rotation, Berezina finished in seventh position thanks to a score of 31,950, while Bautista managed 31,450 to be tenth and secure at least one of the three substitute places for the final. The Ukrainian Viktoriia Onopriienko, with a score of 33.650, set the best record of the 71 participants.

In ball rotation, Bautista was the best Spaniard occupying the ninth position with 31,050 points, staying as the first reserve for the final. For her part, Berezina finished eighteenth with 30,200 points. The Bulgarian Stiliana Nikolova, with a score of 34.600, took the lead among the 71 gymnasts in contention.
