The Spanish team will remain number one in the FIBA ranking until the 2023 World Cup, which will take place from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, as no more official matches will be played until the start of the tournament, according to the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) in a statement.
Sergio Scariolo’s men will defend that first place in the prestigious ranking in the World Cup, according to the list of teams published by the highest international basketball organization after the last and decisive FIBA Windows in which the final lineup of 32 participants was completed.
Spain remains at the top, topping the list for the second time in a row with 758.3 points and an advantage of 1.1 units over the second-ranked United States with 757.2. Australia (740.2), Argentina (733.6) and France (715.9) complete the ‘Top 5’. The selection rose to number one for the first time in history in November 2022, after achieving the Eurobasket two months earlier.
Now he must defend that condition in the 2023 World Cup, from August 25 to September 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. The draw for the group stage of the tournament will be held next Saturday, April 29 in Manila (Philippines), when Spain meets its rivals and the venue for said round, since the qualifiers, starting with the quarterfinals, will be played entirely Manila.
