Adel Mechaal ends the Spanish ‘indoor’ record of 1,500 after 24 years

MADRID, 25 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish athlete Adel Mechaal broke the Spanish record of 1,500 meters indoors this Saturday in the last event of the World Athletics Indoor Tour held in Birmingham, with a 3:33.28 that ended by four hundredths off the record of Andrés Manuel Díaz.

The previous record turned 24 years old just on Friday and Mechaal fulfilled a progression this winter that announced a record alert in each test. This was the case last Wednesday at the previous meeting of the International Indoor Tour held in Madrid, but a record that had suitors finally arrived on English soil.

The great specialists in the ‘milqui’ failed to lower that mark of the Galician Andrés Manuel Díaz on February 24, 1999 on the Greek track in Piraeus. Mechaal took the great taste of the national record with a second place in Birmingham behind the British Neil Gourley (3:32.48), before going to Istanbul in search of a new medal in the European.
