Spain selects 29 athletes to the European Indoor Track in Istanbul

MADRID, 23 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A total of 29 athletes, 10 women and 19 men, will represent Spanish athletics in the European Indoor Championships, which will be held in Istanbul between March 2 and 5 at the Ataköy Athletics Arena, as confirmed by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation. (RFEA).

In this list, there are notable absences that were already known through the media such as Mohamed Katir, Mariano García, Mario García Romo or Maribel Pérez, but also good names such as the hurdler Asier Martínez, world bronze and European 110-meter gold fences, and Enrique Llopis, Adel Mechaal, Óscar Husillos, Saúl Ordóñez, Esther Guerrero or the men’s 4×400 relay that was runner-up in the ‘indoor’ world last year.

Spain will attend with four of the five medalists from the previous event held in Torun (Poland), led by Óscar Husillos from Palencia, defending his 2021 gold. At his side, Jorge Ureña (silver heptathlon), Adel Mechaal (bronze 3,000) and Jesús Gomez (1,500 bronze).

In addition, of these 29 athletes, Husillos and Iñaki Cañal, in 400 m, Ordóñez and Javier Mirón, in 800, Llopis, in 60 mv, Jaime Guerra, in longitude, Ureña, in heptathlon, Guerrero, in 1,500, and Marta Pérez, in 3,000, they are currently among the five best marks of the year at the continental level of their respective tests.
