The infantas Elena and Cristina support their mother at the funeral of King Constantine of Greece

On January 16, we saw Don Juan Carlos I reunite with Doña Sofía in Athens for the funeral of the brother of the emeritus, King Constantine of Greece. The entire Spanish Royal Family was seen there: the infantas Elena and Cristina, their children, the Kings, Doña Letizia and Don Felipe, except their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía. For the first time in these years, a historic reunion for the Spanish monarchy took place before the media.

Today, February 18, an intimate and family funeral was held to honor and remember King Constantine. There we have been able to see Doña Sofía accompanied by her inseparable daughters, the Infantas Elena and Cristina, and by her sister, Irene de Grecia. Very affectionate and in rigorous mourning, the emeritus greeted all the media present at the funeral and smiled at the support she received by way of applause.

Once again, the Metropolitan Cathedral has become the scene of this funeral that only the closest family will attend to remember the last king of the Hellenes. Following this ceremony, the Greek Royal Family will invite attendees to lunch and coffee at the cultural center of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

It was on January 10 when King Constantine died at the age of 82 after being admitted to the intensive care unit for several days due to respiratory failure. During recent times, he would have suffered from health problems. In 2016, he was admitted for suffering an ischemic crisis and, a few weeks later, he was hospitalized again for contracting Covid. All this affected his respiratory and heart problems, in addition to having reduced mobility.
