MADRID, 16 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, will opt to be re-elected next April to the UEFA Executive Committee, the body where he is currently one of its vice-presidents.

The continental body announced this Thursday the final list of candidates for the positions of president and members of the UEFA Executive Committee that will be elected at its 47th Ordinary Congress that will take place in Lisbon on April 5.

In this sense, the Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin, the current top president, was confirmed as the only candidate for the presidency, for which he will face a third term as head of the governing body of continental football

For his part, Luis Rubiales will be one of the candidates for the Executive Committee, of which he has been a member since February 2019. The president of the RFEF, elected one of the vice-presidents of UEFA in May 2019, is among the eleven applicants to seven positions in this body for four more years together with the Danish Jesper Moeller Christensen, the French Philippe Diallo, the Albanian Armand Duka, the Czech Petr Fousek, the Norwegian Lise Klaveness, the Georgian Levan Kobiashvili, the Ukrainian Andrii Pavelko, the Scottish Rod Petrie, Hugo Quaderer from Liechtenstein and Bjoern Vassallo from Malta.

The German Hans-Joachim Watzke, current general manager of Borussia Dortmund, is the only candidate for a position on this committee for two years, while the Welsh Laura McAllister is the only female representative.

The European federation indicated that all candidates were subject “to an eligibility check carried out by an electoral committee made up of members of the UEFA Governance and Compliance Committee”, which all of them passed “successfully”.
