The European Leagues “were not consulted” by the Super League and reiterate that the current model is not “broken”

MADRID, 9 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The European Leagues have shown themselves “surprised” this Thursday at the A22 Sports statement presenting the “open” model of the European Super League, which made reference to a “consultation process” with the different continental national competitions, something that they have denied , at the same time that they have ensured that the current model of European football “is far from being broken”.

“The European Leagues are very surprised by today’s statement from A22 referring to an open consultation process and its results. The European Leagues – the body that officially represents the interests of 40 organizers of national competitions from 34 countries in Europe and 1092 clubs – never met with A22 and were not consulted,” he explained in a statement.

The Super League, as announced this Thursday, is committed to launching an “open” competition, with “several divisions” and made up of “between 60 and 80” teams, as a result of the conclusions of the “extensive dialogue” that has been carried out A22 Sports Management, the company that manages the project, with almost 50 European clubs and football players.

“The conclusions point to an open European football league, based solely on sporting merit, with several divisions, between 60 and 80 participating clubs and a minimum of 14 guaranteed European matches per club,” ‘A22’ said in a statement.

Faced with this proposal, the group of the different leagues reiterated that they “fully” support the current European model of club football. “It is far from being broken and it is not necessary to fix it,” they explained, before recalling that this system is based on an open pyramidal structure with promotions and descents from the base to the professional category at the national level, and in which the classification for UEFA competitions is based on “annual performance in domestic competitions”.
